Where NetMind sits on your network, how a click on the dashboard reaches a device, and exactly what data leaves your computer.
The big picture
Where NetMind sits on your network.
One computer on your network does the work. Everything else — the dashboard, alerts, reports — comes from your NetMind account.

How traffic reaches NetMind without touching your router. NetMind uses ARP — the way devices on a local network find each other — to ask your devices to send their internet traffic through the NetMind computer. That lets it measure every device and slow down or block one without any router change. On Linux it shapes traffic with the kernel's built-in traffic control; on Windows it uses the WinDivert packet driver.
Remote control
What happens when you click Limit.
Controlling a device from the web dashboard takes a few seconds, end to end.
01
You click Limit
On the dashboard's Devices page — from your desk or your phone.
02
Your account queues it
The command is checked against your plan and saved to your account.
03
The app picks it up
The desktop app checks for new commands every 3 seconds and applies it on your network.
04
It reports back
The app confirms the result, and the device shows as limited on the dashboard.
If the desktop app is offline, the dashboard tells you straight away instead of queuing a command that can't run.
Your data
What stays on your computer, and what goes online.
NetMind only sends what the dashboard needs to show you your network.

Good to know
The honest details.
Why it needs administrator rights
Redirecting and shaping traffic needs low-level network access, so NetMind asks for administrator rights once at install and when it starts. It's also why some antivirus software flags it — the techniques look similar to what malware does. Only download it from our website or official GitHub releases.
One NetMind per network
Two copies on the same network compete to route the same devices — connections drop and limits stop working reliably. Install it on one computer and use the web dashboard from everywhere else.
If the internet drops
Limits already applied keep running. After a 10-second grace period, Paid controls pause until the app can reach your account again, then switch back on by themselves. The dashboard marks the app offline and alerts you when it's back.
Not for client-isolated Wi-Fi. Networks that stop devices from seeing each other — like most public guest Wi-Fi — block the technique NetMind relies on. The NetMind computer must be on the same local network as the devices you want to manage.
Ready to set it up?
Installation takes about 15 minutes on one computer.
